Splendor in the Los Altos Grass

By Gerard Sarnat

“Money can’t buy me love.”
-The Beatles

We can affirm
retail therapy
indulgences
do not bring
happiness, but
Havad Biz School*
says cash does
buy us time
and well-being:
choose to disentangle,
live in the forest,
on the beach,
close to work.
Housekeepers.
Gourmet take-out
— or when that leads
to complacency —
hedonic adaptation
— clean or cook for
yourself plus family.
Didn’t expect empathy
but what the fuck,
frankly this strikes
moi as self-evident,
self-satisfied solipsistic
academic bullcrap;
the real deal candidly
includes doing what you
can to make life better for
less fortunate sisters, bro
